Brigida Nivas, Chaibasa, Jharkhand – 1999

The birth and initiation of a small community of the Ursulines in the Jamshedpur Diocese, West Singbhum District, Jharkhand occurred on the 350th birth anniversary of the Institute as God the master planner, had ordained it so.

An all-round development of the young was at a low ebb in the district to which the Ursulines would contribute. Fr. Cyril Fernandes, of Jamshedpur Diocese through whose instrumentality the sisters, arrived in Jharkhand to cater to the educational needs of the people on 15th February 1999. The new mission at Chaibasa was blessed and inaugurated by Rt. Rev. Bishop Felix Toppo SJ the Bishop of Jamshedpur Diocese, on 18th February 1999.

The sisters held the responsibility of St. Xavier’s English Medium School from the Founder, Fr. Cyril Fernandes. They took keen interest in inculcating spiritual and moral values to the students. Every opportunity was given to the students to develop their intellectual, physical and social aptitudes for a better life in all aspects.

On 6th May 2000 the foundation stone was laid for the convent building by Fr. Robert the Dean of Kholhan. It was named Brigida Nivas and was blessed on 21st March 2001 by Rt. Rev. Felix Toppo, the Bishop of Jamshedpur Diocese.

It is a privilege to claim that the small beginning of the mission of the Ursulines began to flourish slowly and steadily with their dedicated service. The school got its permanent affiliation from Council for the Indian School Certificates Examination (ICSE) in the year 2007.

The school has upgraded to Std XII and it has become a hub of learning for thousands of students. The sisters have rendered commendable service to the institution due to which it has attained remarkable progress. It has procured Minority status from National Commission for Minority Education Institution, Government of India, New Delhi.

The management of Jamshedpur Diocese extends their wholehearted support and encouragement in the smooth functioning of the institution.

The Ursulines contribute to the wellbeing of the society imparting holistic education to the young.
