“Let me abide in Your tent forever, find refuge under the shelter of Your wings”.      (Ps. 61:4)

Sorrow and grief filled the hearts of the Ursulines at the sad demise of loving Sr. Georgia who left this earthly dwelling, to live in the tent of the Lord forever. Truly she has gained the everlasting bliss of paradise and  found her refuge in God. Sr. Georgia began her new life in the Risen Lord as she flew to the eternal shores with angelic serenity, at 2.50pm, on 20th July 2020 at Holy Family Convent, Kurla.

Sr. Georgia was born 76 years ago in Myladoor family, on 14th December 1943 in Bharanganam, Kerala, in the Diocese of Palai, land of the first saint of India! She was the first child of Mr. George & Mrs. Elizabeth Myladoor. Sr. Georgia was born in a large family; she was blessed with four brothers, five sisters and had the privilege of being the eldest in the family. Giving heed to the ardent desire to dedicate herself to her beloved Lord, she joined the Congregation of the Ursulines of Mary Immaculate at Kannur. She made her First Profession on 25th March 1963, the day of the Feast of Annunciation of our Lord. On 15th March 1968, she made her perpetual vows and has been a member of the Ursuline family for 57 years serving the Congregation very generously.

To pursue the higher studies, Sr. Georgia was sent to America. She completed her graduation in Medical Lab Technology at Pittsburg, USA and later obtained a diploma in Hospital Administration from TATA Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai. She rendered her dedicated and valuable service in the Health Care Apostolate.  She was the Principal of Medical Lab Technology, Nirmala Hospital Calicut for 14 years. During this tenure she also assumed the responsibility as the superior of the community. In her 25 years of service, she has shouldered various responsibilities in Holy Family Hospital, Bandra, as Director of Diagnostics, Administrator of the Hospital and Superior of Shalom community. Her yeoman service contributed for the growth and expansion of Holy Family Hospital especially the Diagnostics Departments.  She worked very hard as quality coordinator and ensured ISO and NABH accreditation to the Hospital. Her self-sacrificing spirit and the unique service rendered to the best of her ability in the Hospitals are noteworthy.

Sr. Georgia not only worked with the students and the young in the hospitals, but also made the old folk ‘young at heart’ by her cheerful and jovial nature. This was very evident during her service as Animator of Nirmala Home for the aged at Nashik. Residents of Home for the Aged were very fond of her and she kept them glad. Sr. Georgia was the Provincial Councilor and rendered her committed service in the Province. She was very effective as the teacher and Principal of the College of Medical Lab Technology, Kurla and Superior of Holy Family Convent, Kurla. She was a joyful and affectionate sister to all. Her charming ways, winning smile and warm heart attracted a wide circle of friends in Mumbai and other places as well.

In the year 2008, she was diagnosed with ischemic heart disease and underwent angioplasty.  As her health deteriorated further she was transferred to Morello convent, Panvel, to take rest and to recuperate in the year 2017.  However, because of her fluctuating health conditions she was hospitalized frequently. In December 2019, she was diagnosed with normal pressure hydrocephalus which affected her memory.  Due to her poor health status she was not fit for the corrective neuro-surgical procedure. Hence as advised by the team of treating consultants, on 17th May 2020, she was shifted from Holy family critical care unit to Holy family Convent, Kurla, to be on  palliative care treatment.

Initially there was improvement in her health conditions. However, from the first week of July her health deteriorated gradually. About a week before her demise, she became drowsy and semiconscious. Doctors from Holy Family Hospital were immediately called to attend to her. Her poor prognosis due to multi organ failure was informed to us and to her family members. She was given oxygen support and nasogastric tube feeds by our Sister Nurses. The anointing of the sick was administered on 13th July 2020. The health of Sr. Georgia further deteriorated and sisters were on her bed side, praying for her. On 20th July 2020, at 2.50pm, she slipped away from this earth into the eternal embrace of her Divine Master serenely and peacefully, in the presence of Sr. Erminia, who was present with her at that moment of time. Immediately, the community sisters surrounded her bedside offering fervent prayers and supplications to God for her.

The mortal remains of Sr. Georgia were kept in the Chapel at Holy Family Convent, Kurla, blest by the continuous prayers offered by the sisters. Owing to the prevalent pandemic situation, the beloved family members of Sr. Georgia were unable to be present to render their last respects and bid the final farewell to their loved one. The Covid-19 protocols and the lock down restrictions, constrained us to keep the funeral service on the same day and only 20 persons were permitted to attend the same. Hence, the funeral services commenced with the requiem Mass at 5.00pm, on 20th July 2020, in the community chapel by Rev. Fr. Joe Braganza SDB, Director DBCL, Kurla.

After the mass, her Sisters were privileged to carry the coffin to the waiting hearse and proceed in procession to the cemetery for the Final Rites conducted by Rev. Fr. Anselm, Parish priest of  Holy Cross Church, Kurla.  The mortal remains of our loving Sr. Georgia were laid to rest in the cemetery of Holy Cross Church, Kurla.

Loving Sr. Georgia, we miss your gentle presence and lively company. We treasure your love through eternity. You continue to live in our hearts, till all of us meet on Heaven’s bright shore. You will always be remembered though we do not see you! Adieu Sr. Georgia!

May you enjoy the everlasting peace and rest in the loving arms of Jesus whom you served with deep love,  unwavering trust and fidelity.
