66th General Chapter – Ursulines of Mary Immaculate

The 66th General Chapter of UMIs was held from 22nd September to 8th October 2021, with the Theme ‘Awakened to be Sowers of Prophetic Hope’ using computerized and Telematic means.

The Canonical Seat was the Generalate, Rome, with the Delegates from Italy, Tanzania and Kenya. The Delegates from India and Brazil joined online from Ursuline Provincialate, Bangalore and Nirmala Provincialate, Greater Noida. The Ursuline Provincialate, Bangalore, had a rare opportunity to celebrate this General Chapter. We are grateful to the Almighty for the blessings in abundance.

We celebrated our General Chapter in the most constraining context of the Covid-19 Virus. This sacred event was a powerful intervention of the Spirit, who has guided our every step, giving us light, and strength and inspiring us with wisdom. The General Chapter was a wakeup call to UMIs to perceive the existential realities of our time and be challenged to a greater commitment to the mission of the Church by reaching out in service and to give hope to the crucified of this pandemic world.

Every UMI drawing strength from the Crucified Lord, is called to deepen the awareness of the UMI as an International Congregation with a Universal Mission of being Awakened to be Sowers of Prophetic Hope, marching on looking at the Crucified Lord and the crucified of today.

One of the significant moments of the General Chapter is the election of the new Superior General and Council.

7th Provincial Chapter

The seventh Provincial Chapter of the Sacred Heart Province of the Ursulines of Mary Immaculate was held at the Ursuline Convent, Kumbalgodu, Bangalore, India, from 09 to 15 January 2021. The theme “AWAKENED TO BE SOWERS OF PROPHETIC HOPE” opened a new page in the history of both the Institute and the Province.
The delegates prepared themselves for this great event with intense preparation, prayer and sacrifices. The Chapter began with the recollection after which the delegates entered the chapel for the inaugural Eucharist with lighted lamps determined to commit themselves to a life of renewal and transformation in order to be authentic UMIs.
Sr. Nikesh Mecherithakadiel, the Provincial Superior, formally welcomed Rev. Fr. Joseph Lobo SJ, the facilitator and 30 delegates. In her welcome address the Provincial said that the Provincial Chapter is a grace-filled moment in the annals of the Province in shaping the destiny of our communities and our Province for the next 6 years.
As the Provincial Chapter 2021 was declared open Sr. Nikesh unveiled the logo of the Chapter.
The Chapter was an invitation to rethink and recreate oneself, the communities and Province as sowers of prophetic hope. It was a moment to harmonize the hearts, minds and souls as delegates to review the past and challenge oneself for a better future as a Province and Institute.
